While walking on the beach you stumble on a valuable object buried in the sand — say, a piece of jewelry or an envelope full of cash. What do you do with it? Under what circumstances would you keep it?
Well firstly if it were cash, then naturally I’d keep it.
Handing something like that in to the police is just a stupid move given how much corruption there is amongst the police forces in, oh I don’t know, every country. So I would certainly be keeping it. If, however the money was still in a wallet, then I’d go out of my way to personally return it to the owner.
Jewellery would be harder to track down the owner, however given the way people interact with social media, it would be much easier to try and track down the owner as opposed to just handing it in at the police station. Depending on the jewellery, it could even have a serial number on it which would make it easier to track down who the owner is.
