Who owns the comment section: the blog writer or the blog readers?
I think it depends on the blog. Some blogs’ comment sections are pretty much a free-for-all, but there are also blogs that are heavily moderated because they don’t like their readers to have an opinion unless it’s positive. That’s a bunch of crap.
It’s the internet, so everybody is going to have an opinion on what they read etc, hell, isn’t that one of the major purposes of even having a blog in the first place? To express your opinion? So if it’s okay for you to do so, but not your readers, to me that just seems hypocritical. In terms of ownership of comments, it really comes down to the type of blog and the type of readers you have. Personally, I have no problem with readers commenting on my posts, but I don’t have hundreds of people commenting all the time. I’d like to think that they would be intelligent enough not to hijack them for their own personal agendas or for getting sidetracked…
…but even that’s hypocritical for me to say that because I get sidetracked ALL. THE. TIME!!
