Daily Prompt – Familial Feasts

Yesterday was Father’s Day in many countries. If you could dedicate a holiday to a more distant relative, who would it be — and why?

Well for us here in ‘Straya, Fathers Day isn’t until September. I should probably know this, but I don’t celebrate it. I haven’t spoken to my father for at least ten years.
So if I had to dedicate a day of celebration to somebody… Is dedicate it to my grandma, may she rest in peace. I’d call the day National Apple Crumble Day, whereby it is customary to gather family and / or close friends, bake an apple crumble and then sit down with a pot of tea and talk to each other open and honestly. A day for eating and a day for communicating.

Nanna made the best apple crumble, and it was one of those recipes she could just whip out on a whim, but nobody else in the family has ever been able to replicate it. I miss her a lot. I didn’t get to see her before she passed, and that’s something that I deeply regret. I wanted to go visit her when I had several opportunities to do so; I wanted to introduce her to Hulk, but it didn’t happen.

Nanna, I miss you, and I love you so much.
