More and more of us go to bed too late because of sleep procrastination. What are the nighttime rituals that keep you up before finally dozing off?
I’m what is referred to as a ‘night-owl’, because I like to stay up late at night. However, when you also have to get up early in the morning, it’s becomes a bit of a nightmare.
When Hulk is ready for bed, I’m usually sitting there thinking along the lines of ‘but I haven’t done X, Y or Z yet…’ And I either compromise and go to bed, which in turn, for some reason gives me anxiety and creates trouble getting to sleep; or I stay up for only a little bit and do one of the several things that I want to do.
Let’s take last night as an example.
It’s 11pm and Hulk wants to go to bed, watch an episode of a new tv series, and have a cuppa. I, on the other hand, want to sit up for at least another hour working on fixing up my iTunes library – recently I’ve discovered that a great percentage of my library is corrupted and requires either re-importing, or re-adding. I first discovered this a couple of years ago and spent, literally, weeks worth of late night after work and after gym trying to fix it – dragging out boxes of cd’s I’ve stored away to reimport them again. I would find myself going to bed at like 2-3am almost every night and then getting up and going to work. On weekends I’d spend almost whole days and nights trying to fix it, it was a nightmare. The hardest part was double clicking on song A, only to then have it play and it’s actually song B, so then I have to make a note of what song A actually is, and then find it to re-add it to the library. And even after that, there are heaps of songs that have just completely disappeared. Grrr.
So at the moment I’m trying to deal with this all over again. Grrr.
Here’s to another fun-filled late night.
