Daily Prompt – Writing Space

Where do you produce your best writing — at your desk, on your phone, at a noisy café? Tell us how the environment affects your creativity.

Well, the bulk of my writing is all done on my phone. On the bus, waiting for a train… It’s always with me and although it’s frustrating because my thumbs constantly hit the wrong keys, it allows me to smash out some posts whilst in transit to and from work which is great – especially when I have soooo many catch up posts to write.

When I want to be creative, then I usually set myself up on my laptop at home, either at the dining table or in the spare room. Pop on some music in the background and make myself a cuppa to help try and get Into a creative frame of mind. Especially when it comes to creative pieces, I really need to be in the right frame of mind in order for the ideas to start flowing, so that it doesn’t end up feeling forced.

Being in an environment that allows for creative thinking also helps – out at a park with my iPad and wireless keyboard is great, or being by the water (although that can be quite distracting as I just want to go swimming), but sometimes I’ve managed to find a creative headspace in the noisy foodcourt of a shopping centre…
