Daily Prompt – Seat Guru

You get to plan a dinner party for 4-8 of your favorite writers/artists/musicians/other notable figures, whether dead or alive. Who do you seat next to whom in order to inspire the most fun evening?

My dinner wouldn’t be like most others, I’d invite a couple of famous comedians instead.

I couldn’t think of anything more painful than having to listen to writers / musicians / artists etc sitting around talking about their work and all the fucking stories that each piece of ‘work’ has. There’s always a backstory to it and if there’s anything I loathe more, it’s a backstory to something creative like an artwork. I don’t give a crap. I just want to be able to appreciate it for an amazing work of art, I don’t want to know, or really care about what it symbolises. I just want to take it at face value.

I’m all up in arms about back-stories after watching a recent episode of Masterchef, where one of the contestants created a dish ‘to symbolise the light at the end of the tunnel; symbolising the struggle his dad went through after getting divorced and picking himself up and getting back on his feet after going to a very dark place.’

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?

And the dish was a scallop, creme fraiche and some prawns painted with squid ink on a plate. THAT’S IT!!

I just wanted to throw something at the tv.

And this is why I would invite comedians to my dinner party, because there would be none of that. Regardless of whatever I cooked, it wouldn’t have a backstory; it wouldn’t have any symbolism… It would just be. If I served soup, it would just be soup.

I’d be inviting my three favourites – Kathy Griffin, Chelsea Handler and Whitney Cummings. Those ladies are pretty much my spirit animals and I’m totally confident that they would also have the same viewpoint as well. Besides, they’re always hilarious when they get together, so it’s a guarantee for an incredible night. I’d love to have an amazing night with them just sitting around laughing and making jokes and having a generally fantastic night.

And if any of their agents are reading this, hit me up, I would totally cook for them!! Let’s make it happen!! Hehehe.
