7 Aug – Memory Trust

Do you trust your memory?

I have a memory like a sieve. But in saying that, I have a well-honed ability to remember certain things, particularly conversations for some reason. I may not be able to remember people’s names, or what I have on my shopping list, but if we had a discussion about something specific two years ago in a coffee shop, for example, then I’ll remember every single word that was said.

Basically, the way my brain works, is that it remembers everything that it probably shouldn’t. Most of everything that comes out of my mouth has some kind of pop-culture reference to it, or a quote from a movie / tv show, or a song reference or something stupid… and that’s pretty much how I operate. I often forget that my partner 99% of the time has absolutely no idea what I’m talking about, and so I’ll say something then start laughing about it myself, and he’s just looking at me thinking I’m an idiot.

My memory is great for remembering rubbish. Anything that is of any importance whatsoever, it’s probably best to just assume that it’ll go in one ear and straight out the other, so don’t be offended if I’ve completely forgotten everything you’ve just said to me by the time you’ve finished speaking.

Sorry, what was your name again?

What was I here to do again?

What was I looking for again?

Who’s party are we going to? And how do you know them?

I’m kinda painting myself out to be more like Dory from Finding Nemo, but it’s not actually that bad. I’ll admit, my memory is pretty bad, but it’s not like I’m in any danger of leaving the house and forgetting where I live. But it could always be better. Especially those times when I’m tired and I go to put the milk in the cupboard, and the kettle in the fridge. *lol* Granted, that’s only happened a couple of times, and it’s usually been when I’m half asleep, so I guess it shouldn’t really count.
