Daily Prompt – One Way Street

Congrats! You’re the owner of a new time machine. The catch? It comes in two models, each traveling one way only: the past OR the future. Which do you choose, and why?

I think the only reason I would want to go back in time is if I was able to re-live my life, but make a few changes in order for myself to end up having a slightly different life.

The concept of being able to travel forward in time to an unknown date in the future certain has a lot of appeal – well, providing it’s not only a few months or years. If I’m travelling through time, then I expect to see an entirely different type of Earthly inhabitant: mind boggling technology that has become the norm; the type of future that we have become accustomed to in the movies – lots of greenery; everybody wearing white and light blue hues in their clothing; fully automated housing that is minimalist and full of smooth rounded edges; vehicles that drive themselves and hover or entirely fly; entire buildings that now seem structurally impossible; and everything is covered in greenery.

I’d want to find out how the medical industry has evolved and how they manage illness, disease and injuries, whether it’s been all but completely eliminated from society, or whether it’s as simple as taking a pill, or having an injection of some sort to target the virus effectively enough, destroying it on contact, without any damage to the human body, internal organs etc.

I’d be interested to see how people commute; what the transport infrastructure is like. Do roads and highways exist any more, or has it become a constant stream of auto-piloted personal flying vehicles?

Are our homes fully automated by a central computer? Is everything we own connected – entertainment, communications etc, even down to things like kitchen appliances, and temperature / lighting control.
