6 Nov – Professional Blogger?

Do you consider yourself a “professional” blogger? Why or why not? What does that mean to you?

Nothing professional going on here… Move along…

I certainly don’t consider myself a professional blogger, nor do I actually think I would ever be a professional blogger.

To me, a professional blogger is somebody who had a blog with a specific point our purpose. Immediately I think if Perez Hilton – he’s a professional blogger and Hollywood socialite because of his extraordinarily bitchy blog, basically tearing ashes of anybody and everybody. It’s not right, but Americans eat that shit for breakfast and suddenly, BOOM, he’s an overnight sensation.

The other types of professional blogs I think of are those that are trying to Market a particular product(s) or the tips that are about reviews whether it be for products like appliances, or food, or restaurants, or Clothing, our holiday destinations or movies. A few people I know have blogs that are based on reviewing aeroplanes and in flight service between countries.

The other key to those blogs is their marketing, promotion and reader base. I’ll never be at a level where I’ll ever have tens of thousands of subscribers and be a blog that people talk about, hell, I’ll be amazed if I even get past 250 subscribers.

But as this is purely only a self-indulgent hobby of mine on the side, and nobody else knows about it, well, except for a select few friends (you know who you are!), I don’t talk about it. I don’t promote it on my Facebook page, or in any online forums, nor do I tell my co-workers about it (well, again, except for a couple of you!). It’s something just for me; my own little creative outlet.

As much as I quite enjoy writing my blog posts, the reality is, I really struggle keeping up to date, and must of the time I have a backlog of about ten posts at any given time, simply because I just don’t have the time to write them.

I’m at a point where I’m thinking that I might just stick with it until the end of the year (it’s only six weeks, people!) And then in 2015, I’ll switch to something like a weekly creative writing past instead, so then I’ll only have to focus on writing one decent, lengthy piece, rather than struggling too write 12 posts each week!
