Do you miss the holiday season when it’s months away? When you’re in the midst of holiday madness, do you enjoy it, or can’t wait for it to be over?
This recent holiday season, I really couldn’t be bothered. I was so completely disorganised, it was embarrassing.
Every other year I’m so well prepared. I have most of my shopping done, at a minimum, two weeks prior to Christmas, allowing myself plenty of time to pick up anything last-minute. This year… I was over it before it even started.
I think once you become an adult, all the fun and joy and wonder of Christmas disappears, and reveals its ugly face as nothing but an expensive and stressful moment in time. But this is the thing, it’s Christmas – it’s one day, and yet people completely lose their shit over it. Everybody is stressing about making sure they’re all going to be with their families, and making sure that they’re getting on flights early enough, and stressing about having to deal with all the extra travellers at the airport. Then it’s about the shopping, and freaking about what to buy Aunt Margaret, because you want to get her something different, because you’ve gotten her the same thing every other year and it’s about time she got something other than fancy soap / hand cream etc.
Or if you’re one of those families that likes to have a big family lunch, then it’s all about food and cooking, and making sure that you cook enough food to feed a small army, because if there isn’t the 5 different salads and 5 different meats, then it’s possible that you’ll all completely starve, and, god forbid, there isn’t enough food for left overs for everybody to take home (and eat for the following three days!).
And let’s be honest, we’re all looking forward to all of it being over. Bring on Boxing Day!
Because once Xmas is over, then you can start focusing on New Years… unless of course you’re like me, and being too distracted by all the EASTER EGGS THAT ARE ON SALE, to even think about NYE… you know, just in case you forget that EASTER IS **ONLY** FOUR MONTHS AWAY!!
