Daily Prompt – The Object of my Dejection

Tell us about the object of your dejection — something you made, a masterpiece unfinished, or some sort of project that failed to meet your expectations. What did you learn from the experience? How would you do things differently next time?

Easy… my other blog…

Daily Prompt – Winning Streak

What’s the longest stretch you’ve ever pulled off of posting daily to your blog? What did you learn about blogging through that achievement, and what made you break the streak?

Several months ago, I was faced with a significant backlog of prompts that were overdue. I couldn’t complete them because I was in the process of writing a large creative piece, but from memory, I wrote something like 18  – 20+ pieces within one day. I literally, woke up like normal, had a shower and breakfast, and then spent the entire day and night just writing, pumping out posts like there was no tomorrow. It was exhausting, and I was starting to feel some RSI in my fingers and wrists from working that keyboard constantly, but it was worth it.

I just don’t want to find myself in that situation again.

5 Nov – Blog Voice

Do you feel you have found your voice on your blog? What techniques have you tried to develop your voice in your writing? What are some characteristics of your personality in your writing?

I think I’m yet to find my blog voice. I think if I really want to try and find my voice, maybe I need to stop with all these daily challenges and focus on weekly creative tasks instead.

Daily Prompt – Reader’s Block

What’s the longest you’ve ever gone without reading a book (since learning how to read, of course)? Which book was it that helped break the dry spell?

Let’s just say that I’m still having my literary dry spell…

Daily Prompt – Verbal Confirmation

To be, to have, to think, to move — which of these verbs is the one you feel most connected to? Or is there another verb that characterizes you better?

‘To cease to think creatively is but little different from ceasing to live.’
— Benjamin Franklin

Sometimes I feel as though all I have are my thoughts and my creativity, and when my creativity fails me, I feel like a failure.

Daily Prompt – Writer’s Block Party

When was the last time you experienced writer’s block? What do you think brought it about — and how did you dig your way out of it?

I often experience writer’s block, even with simple tasks such as writing daily blog posts and it frustrates me and I’m like ‘Brain, what the fuck is going on… make the words happen!’. Continue reading

12 June – Is Anybody Listening?

After you leave a comment, do you go back to check and see if people responded to your comment? Why or why not?

I’m not really in the habit of commenting, so I don’t do it very regularly. There have been times where I have left comments asking questions either to the author of the post, or to their fellow readers, and in those circumstances I generally subscribe to alerts (where possible) if somebody replies to my comment.

In doing so, it opens a dialogue between people who otherwise would have never ‘noticed’ each other. On occasion it has even led to these strangers then following my comments and viewing my blog to see what I have to say, and sometimes they end up subscribing which is kind of cool.

May 19 – Nourishment

What do you do to nourish yourself apart from food?

Well, perhaps the most nourishing thing I do for myself now is writing. Although it may only be general blogging and not necessarily anything substantial, it’s still better than sitting there talking about it or thinking about it but not actually following it through. I think that was perhaps the most detrimental part – doing all this talking and planning and constantly saying things like ‘I should start writing… Maybe I’ll start a blog…!’ but then nothing came of it and all of a sudden a couple more months have passed and I’ve achieved nothing.

That day I decided to start a blog, I really had no idea whatsoever as to what I was doing, what I’d be writing or even what direction I was going in… And now, I’ve written almost 350 posts and a few creative pieces and I’ve enjoyed it quite a lot. I have realised that there is still a lot inside my head that I want to write about, however I’m still quite apprehensive and guarded about sharing certain aspects of my life with my audience. I have also realised that I really love writing creative pieces, especially when I get so absorbed in an idea and it just flows – I just wish that I was able to fully dedicate as much time as needed in order to get a whole creative piece out without it taking a few days, or a couple of weeks.

I’ve missed writing creative pieces… I need more of that.

If you know of any great blogs or writers sites for some good creative prompts, let me know in the comments section below 🙂
