Have you ever played in a band? Tell us all about that experience of making music with friends. If you’ve never been in a band, imagine you’re forming a band with some good friends. What instrument do you play in the band and why? What sort of music will you play?
The closest that I’ve ever come to playing a musical instrument was the recorder when I was in primary school… well, that, the Tambourine and the Triangle. Oh, and the maracas. *LOL*
In high school I had to learn the piano / keyboard in year 7 and then the guitar in year 8 and I was terrible at both of them. Despite having long fingers, I still couldn’t actually manage to get them to work properly. I think with the piano all I could manage was Chopsticks and even then, that was a stretch. As for being able to read music? Not a chance. I still couldn’t work out the difference between the different types of quavers.
I always wanted to be able to play piano. I think it’s always impressive when somebody is able to sit down and belt out a little tune on the ivories. If I’m forming a band though I’m not sure if I’d wanna play keyboard or drums. I do love a good drum rhythm – as the drum is what creates and drives the beat, and then every other instrument is layered in with their own rhythms and melodies.
I think that we’d play some type of dance music… something that has a great beat, and makes people just want to get up and dance. So it’s inevitable that the key is to have a driving drum beat, and a really solid (and catchy) melody. However, I don’t know whether I would like our music to be super commercial, or whether I’d rather it be more underground or something that ends up having a huge following in an overseas market such as Denmark, or Germany, or Japan. I would also love for our music to be marketed towards either the dance and / or fitness industry, as they are markets that are quite vast, and highly underrated. Being able to get our music amongst the fitness industry would ensure quite significant global exposure, which in turn would help drive our name, our image and our sales.
