Daily Prompt – Sleepy Time

More and more of us go to bed too late because of sleep procrastination. What are the nighttime rituals that keep you up before finally dozing off?

I’m what is referred to as a ‘night-owl’, because I like to stay up late at night. However, when you also have to get up early in the morning, it’s becomes a bit of a nightmare.

Daily Prompt – Have You Never Been Mellow?

After a long day at work or school, what are your favorite ways to wind down and decompress?

If I truly had my way with this, there are a couple of different approaches I would absolutely love to take (and used to take when I was single). Now, for the sake of the post, let’s just go ahead and assume that it’s been an incredibly long and exhausting day…

Option 1
I would come home, have a very small and quick / easy dinner by about 6:30pm, have a long hot shower, jump straight into my pj’s, crawl into bed and then watch like four or five episodes back-to-back of one of my favourite tv shows.

Option 2
I would come home, collapse on the bed and fall asleep. I would then probably wake up around midnight, 1am with my bag still on my back, roll off the bed and stumble around in the dark, only to get naked and crawl into bed. I’d find the warm spot where I’d previously been laying, and position myself for maximum warmth exposure, and then go back to sleep.

Option 3
If I’d had a particularly shitty day at work, and was so unbearably bubbling with pure rage, I’d take myself down to the gym for a BODYPUMP™ class and channel all my rage into a weights class. I’d be the one towards the back of the class with rather light weights (well, compared to all the hardcore women in the class), and sweat my hole out for an hour. Breathing heavily through clenched teeth, totally regretting the decision to even come to the gym. Afterwards, I’d drag my sweaty self home for a nice hot shower, and then completely stuff my face with cheese and spinach sausage rolls, followed by either ice-cream or chocolate.

Nowadays, I live a life full of late nights, late dinner and early mornings. I’m a bit over it. I’m finding that Option 2 is regularly becoming something I wish I could do several times per week. Unfortunately, my husband doesn’t support such an idea.

Just thinking about it is starting to make me feel a bit sleepy….

Daily Prompt: Write Here, Write Now

Write a post entirely in the present tense.

Tired.

Oh sweet baby cheeses am I feeling tired.

My mum arrived in Melbourne yesterday and is staying with us for a couple of days before she heads off to stay with her sister for a few days, and we head off to Auckland for a few days.

It’s 41degrees today (105.8F) and mum arrived early this afternoon. Rather than go back to our place straight away and get the keys from Hulk, she instead chose to stay in the city and wait for my to finish work. Then the 2hrs that I ususally spend before class doing exactly this and catching up on writing my overdue blog posts! Instead, I had to spend time entertaining mum in this stinking heat. I just don’t understand why she didn’t just go back to our place and be in the cool air con.

I actually feel guilty for not really wanting to be stuck spending time with her. I know that I haven’t seen her for quite some time since she moved to Queensland, but it wasn’t exactly the best time for her to be here. I have a very set schedule, and I think that perhaps she was expecting me to cancel everything so that we could spend time together. It made things worse that we then didn’t actually get to have dinner until after 10:30pm.

Being hot, exhausted, rushed, and hangry (hungry + angry) is already a recipe for disaster. When you throw family obligation into the mix, it just makes it worse.

As much as I really wanted to, I would have loved to have been able to take those two days off work – hell, I would have been happy with just having one day off, but I couldn’t manage it, and in the end, the time that we got to actually spend together was very, very limited. And to keep digging the hole a little deeper, whenever mum is here, her and I always end up staying up late chatting away. I really do love being able to just kick back and talk about all kinds of things with mum, and completely lose track of time… it’s just so much hard to recover from it when it’s during the working week. *lol*

Day 3 – My Writing Space

Tell us about your writing space. Where do you write your blog posts?

My writing space varies. It’s not confined to one particular space. Right this moment, I’m sitting at the kitchen table writing this on my iPad and wireless keyboard. Although my MacBook Pro is also right in front of me, she’s currently busy doing some burning and seeding some torrents.

When I first started this blog, I was actually at my desk at work. I had decided that I was done with actually doing work for the afternoon when I started reading about NaBloPoMo and convinced myself to create this blog to take part in the writing challenge. As I also have now installed the WordPress app on both my iPhone and iPad (Sorry, I should have prefaced that with something like **WARNING** Shameless product promotion ahead), it’ll allow me to do any writing whilst I’m out and about, or if I’m sitting in a food court killing time, or if I’m on the train to / from work.

I think I’m more intrigued as to the various places that I’ll be posting from… other than work, the dining table and bed.

Speaking of which, it’s 1:34am. I need to go to bed and get some sleep. Gotta be up @ 6am 😦 Night y’all.
