Daily Prompt – Wronged Objects

If your furniture, appliances, and other inanimate objects at home had feelings and emotions, to which item would you owe the biggest apology?

Dear Wii U,

I’m really sorry for the way things have worked out between us, I don’t think either of us anticipated it ever ending like this.

Daily Prompt – Now? Later?

We all procrastinate. Website, magazine, knitting project, TV show, something else — what’s your favorite procrastination destination?

Hmmm… Well I have a few of them, because I’d rather be procrastinating than actually doing what I’m supposed to be doing.

What’s your most prized possession? GO!

Hmmm… this is a tough one… there’s so many of them.

Daily Prompt – Saturday Night

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT! What’s your favorite way to spend Saturday night?

Given that Hulk and I both work two jobs, Friday night is the only night that we don’t work, so that’s usually either our night at home so we can veg-out, or we’ll have a low-key date night and head off to the movies.

Seeing as how Hulk works on Sunday morning, it makes it a bit harder for us to do anything on a Saturday night, however in saying that, the last couple of weeks have seen us going out with a couple of friends to a certain nightclub on a Saturday night to see some international performers… that then turns into our friends coming back to our place for ice-cream and / or nacho’s and a very, very late night. Then on Sunday morning, we have a big breakfast for the four of us, and Sunday becomes a bit of a write-off.

Sometimes we’ll have a proper date night, where we’ll get a little bit dressed up, and head to our favourite sushi place in the city, and then go and see a show somewhere in the city, and that’s always something nice for us to do, but because we’re a couple of nanna’s, all we really want to do is just get home, put on our PJ’s and have a cuppa.

Sometimes all I want to do on saturday night is just curl up on the couch in my pyjamas and play video games. I think if I was to find myself being single, then that’s probably what I would be spending my time doing… isolated and completely engrossed in one of my PS3 games like Tomb Raider or The Last Of Us.

Daily Prompt – Can’t Get it Out of My Head

Have you ever become obsessed with something? Tell us about something that captivates your attention like nothing else.

I have somewhat of an addictive personality. It doesn’t take much for me to become focused on something , and want to give it my complete undivided attention. I think that the two worst offenders here are tv and video games.

Let’s start with TV…

So I find that once I watch a new tv show, I’ll be able to ascertain whether I like it enough or not from just one episode. If it doesn’t pique my interest enough within the first half of the episode, then I’m sorry, I’m out. However, if I can get hooked on it after the first ten mins… Then sign me up for the whole season immediately.

I’m that type of person who will sit down and watch an entire season of a show in one afternoon. Give me a couch and my onesie and a giant bottle of water, constant cups of tea and biscuits, and I’ll smash out an entire season in a day. Episodes back-to-back and get so completely engrossed by it, I’ll completely ignore the outside world.

I have also been known, during holidays or long weekends, to go a couple of days without showering because I’m so fixated on what I’m watching. It’s gross, but it has happened.

The other offender here are video games. Admittedly, I’m completely obsessed with the entire LEGO franchise of games. If it comes out on PS3, then I need to own it. No questions. I can’t quite explain what it is about these games, but once I pick up the controller, if I’m left on my own, I’ll spend 15hrs playing that without a break and will do so without any reservations whatsoever. Yesterday I bought the LEGO: The Hobbit video game. The week before it was The LEGO Movie game. Then I bought it on 3DS as well, simply because it’s a whole completely different game to the PS3 version.

Clearly, I have a problem.

Just as I was about to publish this post, I realised that I had one smaller, last-minute addition. Fashion Shows.

Now before you all start babbling on about ‘oohhh how TYPICAL… the gays and their fashion…’ firstly, shut the fuck up; and secondly, what’s wrong with it? I don’t actually know what it is, but I am fascinated and slightly obsessed with fashion shows. Granted, the best bits are when the models fall down (it just reiterates my statement to all women – if you can’t walk in those heels, then you shouldn’t be wearing them!!) and if you’re not sure what I’m talking about, watch this:

I can’t quite put my finger on why I’m so drawn to a fashion show. I just love watching them. And I think that for label clothing stores, they should always be playing their fashion shows in the window. On a recent visit to a shopping centre, I passed a store and their window display was a 5-screen x 5-screen video display showing some of their fashion shows. It stopped me in my tracks, and I stood there, fixated on the footage. It was hypnotic.

I should probably also admit that I subscribe on iTunes to a couple of fashion video podcasts. Although they don’t show you the entire show, they at least show you almost every show, from every label, from every Fashion Week around the globe… New York, Paris, Milan etc. Constant fashion love. However, I fail to watch them all when they become available, and instead find myself wasting hours at a time slumped over my MacBook watching the likes of Dior, YSL, D&G, Chanel etc.

Perhaps I should seek some professional help? *lol*

Daily Prompt: In the Summertime

Theoretically, summer will return to the polar-vortex-battered Northern Hemisphere. What are you looking forward to doing this summer? If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, what are your fondest memories of Summer past?

Well, for us here in ‘Straya, we get really hot summers… this past summer we saw some temperatures reach from between 46 – 48 degrees (celsius). I remember when I was a kid, we lived in the country and every summer we would have to endure 45-degree heat waves for up to two weeks at a time before we’d actually get a cool change come through.

As the world and society has evolved, along with the ozone layer and global warming, that has since changed. Living in Melbourne, I’ve noticed a distinct pattern in summer… it’ll get ridiculously hot for a few days in a row, then it will rain. Then it gets hot again, then it rains again. We’re fortunate enough to have air conditioning where I live as well as where I work, however catching public transport between the two of them can become quite a nightmare. A hot, sweaty, exhausting, sweaty, smelly, sweaty nightmare.

For me, the standout memories of this summer were extensive train delays due to track network upgrades; countless days of making my absolute favourite Watermelon Mocktail (Watermelon, fresh mint leaves, apple & mint juice, splash of lemon juice and ice – all whizzed up in a blender, and served over ice and some fresh mint leaves to garnish!); it was also a time of sleeping; blogging and PS3; copious amounts of food, but above all, the stress and drama revolving around Christmas.

What. A. Nightmare.

Surprisingly, not once did I get to go to the beach. I didn’t get to swim in the ocean. In fact, I barely managed to swim in a pool for most of summer. Granted I was also carrying a little excess weight, so getting my top off in public certainly wasn’t an option, but it’s disappointing that I didn’t even get the opportunity to visit the ocean.*sigh* I love the ocean. It’s so therapeutic for me.

Daily Prompt: Young At Heart

What are your thoughts on aging? How will you stay young at heart as you get older?

The thought of getting older is actually something that secretly terrifies me. I find that when I start thinking about it, I get a bit obsessed about it.

I feel as though I’ve been robbed of a life of enjoyment. Life has robbed me of the opportunities to do the sort of things that you’re supposed to do in certain age groups.

For example, when I was in my late teens, all I wanted was to study dance and pursue that as a career. That didn’t happen because of a spinal injury.

In my Twenties, those are the years that you’re supposed to be travelling the world; working overseas; finding yourself etc etc etc. Well, I guess I managed to find myself. The other two – that didn’t happen. Whilst other friends of mine were off getting dance contracts on Cruise Ships, I was stuck in an office cubicle, feeling miserable and being bullied by my employer to the point of having a small nervous breakdown.

In my mid-twenties, other people were working hard and saving for house deposits – I on the other hand was too busy struggling to be able to pay my rent, buy groceries and pay my bills. I was caught up in being Miss Independent, and dealing with an absolutely clusterfuck of a relationship that pretty much destroyed me mentally and emotionally.

By the time I had reached my late twenties, I still hadn’t come to terms with the fact that I was already in my late-twenties. Thirty was rapidly approaching, and it was approaching at a speed that I just wasn’t prepared for. People were getting married and having kids, and buying cars and houses, and here I was renting a shitty apartment with Hulk, trying to determine what our future had in store for us. Everybody around us was travelling overseas – but it was constant. Somebody was just coming back from overseas, and planning their next trip. As they were coming back, other people were getting ready to leave. Sometimes it was a week here or there, or going for two / three / four weeks at a time. I couldn’t wrap my head around how these people were able to afford to do so.

Then it clicked. Money. Management. The one thing that I simply cannot do.

Now that I’m in my early thirties, I still feel lost and confused. Part of me is telling me that I should be doing responsible things like saving for a house deposit. Or saving for a trip overseas. One of my friends is over in Europe for a few weeks. Other friends of ours are in the U.S. for a few weeks. One of my co-workers has just left to go to New York for three weeks. Another co-worker is going overseas for two or three months later in the year. I just find it so depressing.

I still don’t even know what I want to be when I grow up. There’s certainly a lot that I dream about achieving, but getting it to actually happen is a completely different story. I don’t want to be one of those people who is stuck in the same job for twenty years, but I realised that I’ve already been in my job for (I think) ten years already.

If that’s the case… where was my fucking celebration cake? Probably because it’s not the sort of achievement that should be celebrated. Oh congratulations. You’ve failed at life so epically, you’ve achieved absolutely nothing, and are basically more than happy to just settle with a shitty job that doesn’t fulfill you for ten years. *slow claps* well done, loser. What a role model!!

So even though I may get older in age, I still feel young at heart. I still love my video games, in particular, LEGO ones. I love going to the movies. I love going to concerts. I’ve pretty much lost all interest in going out, simply because the ‘scene’ nowadays has totally changed.

…Oh god, I just used the terms ‘nowadays’. Just call me grandpa.

I still buy cool clothes and shoes, but at the end of the day, it’s just stuff. It’s not a house. It’s not a car. It’s not a trip overseas. I really should focus on achieving those.

…but maybe I’ll think about that after the LEGO Movie Game comes out on PS3 next week. hehehe.

Daily Prompt: Linger

Tell us about times in which you linger — when you don’t want an event, or a day to end. What is it you love about these times? Why do you wish you could linger forever?

Generally speaking, it’s usually whenever I have a day off or when I’m on holidays. And if it’s my holidays, it’s usually the absolute last day of my holidays – it’s that day when I realise that I haven’t utilised all my time off the way I really wanted to… instead, I’ve wasted it spending my time sleeping, or on the couch watching stuff I’ve recorded / downloaded instead of actually being out and about and making the most of the free time.

Summer holidays are the absolute worst!! Here in Australia, our latest summer saw temperatures reach up to 47 degrees celsius (116 F) which was ridiculous, but for me, when it gets that hot, my body just wants to sleep. So whilst the rest of the country is feeling disgusting because they can’t stop sweating, I can quite easily go and lay down and just sleep for hours and hours at a time. The only exception to this rule, is when it’s hot over night. There were a couple of nights this past summer where the overnight low of 34 C (93F). Let me just clarify that it’s not like that every day / night, but we’ve had a few scorchers just to test the human limit whilst making their power bills soar from having the air conditioner on constantly.

Instead of getting up early and seizing the day, I’m more often sleeping until about 11, lounging around until about 3 or 4, then finally dragging myself into the shower, and then my day will start around 4-5pm, and by that stage, shops are getting ready to shut, and then I’m awake until about 2am. Going out to catch up with friends? Too much effort. Calling whichever company about a bill dispute? That can wait until tomorrow. Going outside and spending time at the beach? That requires too much travel… and it’s too hot. Spending the whole day on the couch in my pj’s? Well I’m already here, so of course I can quite easily do that!!

I always tell myself that next time I’ll be better, and I’ll be more productive. I’ll get up early and go to the gym. I’ll set aside three hours just so I can write. I’ll sort through all my clothes. I’ll tidy up the spare room etc etc. BUT NONE OF IT HAPPENS!! And then on that last day I’m just full of regret.

On the other hand, the thing that pisses me off the most, is when I have a day off, and a certain somebody (not pointing any fingers here, Hulk), decides on what they want me to do that day… with absolutely no regard whatsoever as to what I might want to do with my free time… for me… Nope. Four of five loads of washing, stack and unstack the dishwasher, fold all the washing and put it away, vacuum the apartment, clean the bath, mop the floors, put the cover on the barbecue, go to the supermarket, set up the DVR to records a few shows, etc… I on the other hand might have plans to go to the movies by myself, then go have a massage, come home and have a bath, cook dinner and have an early night… but somebody thinks that’s just a complete waste of a day. Perhaps because this same somebody doesn’t actually know how to relax, and believes that if you have free time, then you have time to work / do chores.

I’m not saying that I don’t want to do them at all… let’s face it, I secretly love doing the laundry and vacuuming the apartment (because I’m weird like that), but the last (and worst) thing for you to do is to tell me what I have to do on my day off… great way to go about pissing me off, and making sure that I retailiate and do almost none of it.

**Insert reference to previous posts about being stubborn!!** hehehe.

I think next time I’ve got some leave up my sleeve, I’ll put in more of an effort to force myself to do something productive with it – get out of the apartment more. Be social.

Feb 26: Indoors or Outdoors

Do you prefer to be outdoors or indoors?

This all comes back to what my mood is.

Generally speaking, I would be quite happy to spend a week confined to my apartment, spending as much time as I could asleep in bed, catching up on all my TV shows, playing PlayStation, or doing what I’m currently doing, and catching up on overdue blog posts so I can bring myself up to date.

I’m not entirely sure what it is, but I find something quite enjoyable about shutting myself off from the outside world, and living inside in my PJ’s. Drinking countless cups of tea, and waaay too much toast. For me, that sounds like a total joy… however, there’s also part of me that loves the idea of the freedom of being outdoors.

Providing that the weather outside is nice and sunny, I also thoroughly love the thought of being able to spend time outside. I think I’m actually drawn to being outside more, due to the fact that I actually do spend most of my time stuck inside – inside the office, inside the gym, inside a train, inside a bus, inside a supermarket, inside the apartment… Since the weather has been relatively nice, so I’ve been taking advantage of that as much as I can by walking from the train station to the office in the morning, and back to the station in the afternoon. When I get the opportunity I also love to go for a walk at lunch, just to get 30-40mins of sunshine on the skin.

I remember when our building was refurbished, during lunch time I would just go upstairs out onto the open common area, and lay down on one of the bench seats and have a little sunbake. It was great… until I got sunburnt, and then I stopped going up there.

If I was away on holidays, I’d love to be spending as much time as possible outside. For example, if I decided to go to some kind of resort, then I’d want to make sure that I was out and about playing tourist, or hitting the beach for the day. I love being able to just be out in the sun… also because it makes me sleepy and want to have an afternoon nap.

Daily Prompt: Nothin’ But A Good Time

Imagine that tomorrow, all of your duties and obligations evaporate for the day. You get the day all to yourself, to do anything you please. What types of fun activities would make your day?

Does that day also happen to be about 48hrs long, so I can actually fit in everything that I would like to be able to do on a ‘day off’? A day off really should be longer than all the other days, especially given my list below… or I’ll need to have two consecutive days off for pure indulgence.

1. SLEEP

Yes.  I put this as #1, and all in caps because it’s the most important and my absolute FAVOURITE thing to do on a day off.

The day would start off with a wonderfully luscious sleep-in. One of those mornings where it’s a bit chilly, but the sun is warm, and beaming in through a bedroom window, and you wish it was possible for these already fluffy pillows and doona just to get that little bit fluffier and softer, so you could just disappear into them for a couple more hours of slumber-heaven.

2. Breakfast

The one thing that I absolutely love about travelling, is a free buffet breakfast. Oh, it’s HEAVEN!! Moreso when there’s no agenda. I think the best time I had with a buffet was, surprisingly, at an airport in the Virgin lounge. The airline had completely messed up my flight home, and told me to be at the airport at 8am for a re-scheduled flight at 9am, only to turn up and have them say that there’s been another change and I’m not on a plane until 2pm. I then demanded lounge access, which they gave me, and it was fantastic.

I got myself set up at a table, watched a Harry Potter movie with Hulk, and basically ate myself silly.

So. Much. Food!!

3. The Beach

What better way to enjoy a relaxing day, than heading off down to the beach for a bit of a swim, and a nap in the sun… then more swimming, and more napping, followed by more swimming and some more napping.

4. A Massage

Now, I’m not talking about a quick 30min neck and shoulder massage, I’m talking at least a 90min – 120min full body, deep-tissue oil massage. I’m the sort of person who puts their body through quite a lot, but then neglects it, and then I complain like a whiny little kid when I’m in pain from sore muscles. (SIDENOTE: Must get back onto my foam roller and look for my spiky-ball.)

What I love, is being able to have a long full-body massage just to really work out all the knots throughout my body, and put things back in some kind of alignment again. Granted, most of the time I find myself falling asleep – it’s quite embarrassing because I snore, but I find that I’m just in such a deep state of relaxation… I love it.

4a. Spa / Sauna / Steam

The other side to a treatment like this, is being able to have a spa / sauna / steam session either before, to help relax and loosen up the muscles, or after a long massage. It can be pretty awkward if it’s done afterwards, because I end up like a rag doll, and struggle to a) keep myself upright and b) conscious – too much time in a steam / sauna room, tends to make me really hot and sleepy… which then brings me to the brink of fainting / passing out. And let’s face it, that’s not necessarily a good thing.

5. A Nap.

This is probably THE BEST part of the whole day… being able to do everything listed above, and then come back to either lay on a sun-saturated bed (or couch) and curl up for a lovely arvo nap. But, one that’s at least 3 – 4hrs long. Anything less than that is a waste of time, and it just makes me feel even more tired than I was before.

6. Gaming

Now that I feel quite refreshed and relaxed, it’s time for a gigantic cup of tea and about fifteen biscuits (or a block of chocolate) and then the PS3 goes on, and I fire up one of my games. At the moment I’m right into Lego Marvel Super Heroesbut at the same time, in the back of my head, I’m completely aware that I’m not giving any time to my other favourite game, Tomb Raider. This game is so good, and so addictive, I usually find myself sitting there, tears streaming down my cheeks because I can’t even bring myself to blink because I find it so engrossing.

Alternate 6. A Bath

By this stage, I’ve woken from my nap and had something to eat for dinner. Then I think one of my favourite things to do is run a bath and use something like a fancy bath bomb, or some relaxing bath salts, and then I’ll either get in (and feel myself slowly broiling from the inside out because the temperature is so hot) and I’ll already have my laptop set up to watch something. Sometimes it’s a couple of episodes of a TV series I’m watching, or it might even be a movie.

And then, when the water has gone cold, or the show / movie has finished, there’s only one thing left to do…

7. Go To Bed.

It’s been a long day of pampering, and self-indulgence, and you know what, it’s exhausting. So all I need to do now, is go to bed and sleep for about 10 – 12hours, so I can wake up all nice and relaxed and refreshed tomorrow – ready to take on the world!
