Daily Prompt – Tight Corner

Have you ever managed to paint yourself into the proverbial corner because of your words? What did you do while waiting for them “to dry”?

I often have a problem of my mouth saying things that get me into trouble… especially when I overreact to certain things, and fly off the handle… on to then find out the real story, and I’m left with egg on my face, and then forced to apologise, which I usually find quite hard to do..

Daily Prompt – Ready, Set, Done #6

Our ten-minute free-write is back for another round! Tap away on whatever comes to mind, no filters attached. (Feel free to edit later, or just publish as-is).

Sarah woke to the sound of the rain outside her window. She rolled over to her side to look through the droplet-covered pane of glass, staring at the gloomy grey morning outside. ‘great’, she thought to herself, ‘i really don’t want to have to go out into that’.

Daily Prompt – Out of Breath

We all seem to insist on how busy, busy, busy we constantly are. Let’s put things in perspective: tell us about the craziest, busiest, most hectic day you’ve had in the past decade.

Most of my days are crazy busy – some more than others, however there isn’t really one specific day that stands out against the rest over the past decade – although let’s be honest, I can barely remember what I did last week, rather than ten years ago.

Daily Prompt – Hand-Me-Downs

Clothes and toys, recipes and jokes, advice and prejudice: we all have to handle all sorts of hand-me-downs every day. Tell us about some of the meaningful hand-me-downs in your life.

I’ve experienced hand-me-downs all my life from clothing to recipes to advice, I’ve had it all, from different people in different facets, and it’s quite hard to pinpoint a few. Continue reading

1 Sept – Talk It Out

Do you find it more helpful to talk things out or to let things quietly rest?

This is one of those things in life where I find myself quite conflicted. Generally speaking, I have nothing in place to stop me from flying into a white-hot rage, but at the same time I’m so terrified of confrontation.

Daily Prompt – Discussion Enders

We’ve all had exchanges where we came up with the perfect reply — ten minutes too late. Write down one of those, but this time, make sure to sign off with your grand slam (unused) zinger.

I have these all the time. Like, all. the. time. And it’s worse because it’s usually with somebody that I have to deal with on the phone and remain as polite and professional as possible, when the truth is, all I want to do is tell them how much they can go fuck themselves and stop wasting my time.

Daily Prompt – Opening Lines

What’s the first line of the last song you listened to (on the radio, on your music player, or anywhere else)? Use it as the first sentence of your post.

Sometimes I feel like throwing my hands up in the air

Sometimes I feel like throwing in the towel

Sometimes I feel like walking away and never looking back

Because sometimes it’s all just too much to take

She told me that I was her everything

I told her she was my light

But we were clearly both deluded

Especially after what I saw that night

You said you were going out with the girls

Whilst I was hanging with the guys

But I left the party early because I wasn’t feeling well

And have got that image burnt into my eyes

I saw her car in the driveway

As I pulled up outside

My keys clinking in the door

And what followed made me cry

I saw the wine bottles on the kitchen bench

And the glasses on the table

As I heard the giggles coming from above

I noticed the clothing on the floor

I saw some socks on the stairwell

which lead to some knickers by the bedroom door

I couldn’t believe the image before me

My wife in bed with another

Another woman, and our family friend

Our little girl’s best friend’s mother

I stood there watching for a moment

Trying to make sense of what I could see

And as you arched your back in absolute ecstasy

You turned and looked at me

But what really hurt the most was that you didn’t stop

My presence there didn’t phase you

Your girlfriend looked up from between your legs

And turned your head back to kiss you

She didn’t even care that I was there

Your husband, your everything

As though I didn’t exist

That just pushed me over the edge

And all I saw was red.

Daily Prompt – Verbal Ticks

Is there a word or a phrase you use (or overuse) all the time, and are seemingly unable to get rid of? If not, what’s the one that drives you crazy when others use it?

This is quite interesting, because somebody once pointed out one of my verbal ticks, and it made me stop and realise just, like, how, like, fucking stupid, I, like, sounded.

9 June – Bite Your Tongue

Are you good at holding your tongue, or do you need to say what is on your mind?

Oooohh… that’s a tough one. I’m very good at biting my tongue when I need to, but in doing so, my brain almost explodes from all the pent up rage, and everything that I really want to be saying to that person. Part of the problem is being so opinionated, and living in a world where I’m not meant to voice my opinion. Ever.
