Daily Prompt – Recently Acquired

What’s the most important (or interesting, or unexpected) thing about blogging you know today that you didn’t know a month ago?

It’s interesting to think about the previous month and the interactions that I’ve had with not just my blog, but the blogs of other people, and I’ve realised just how time consuming blogging can be.

Daily Prompt – Reader’s Block

What’s the longest you’ve ever gone without reading a book (since learning how to read, of course)? Which book was it that helped break the dry spell?

Let’s just say that I’m still having my literary dry spell…

Daily Prompt – You, Robot

Congrats — you’ve been handed a robot whose sole job is to relieve you of one chore, job, or responsibility you particularly hate. What is it?

Let’s be honest, if I had a robot, it’d most certainly be doing more than one task. Actually, it’d basically just be doing all the things I do during the day, which would free me up to spend my days on the couch watching catch-up tv shows and movies, playing video games and writing.

Daily Prompt – Off The Shelf

Take a look at your bookcase. If you had enough free time, which book would be the first one you’d like to reread? Why?

My problem is not the books that I want to re-read, but moreso the books that I’d like to actually read for the first time!  Continue reading

8 Aug – Blog Flash-back

Do you re-read old blog posts? Do your memories of events match what you wrote at the time?

I don’t make it a habit to go back and re-read stuff that I’ve written, unless it’s a creative piece, because everything else just looks like a bunch of crap. Continue reading

Daily Prompt – Great Expectations

Tell us about one thing (or more) that you promised yourself you’d accomplish by the end of the year. How would you feel once you do? What if you don’t?

Well, I made a resolution to read more this year. Ideally I wanted to at least read one book per month, because I that was going to be far more realistic and achievable than say, trying to read two or three books per month, whilst still trying to maintain writing two blog posts per day and working two jobs.

Evidently, it turns out that just the notion of writing two posts per day is quite a struggle and I’m now finding myself regularly having to combat a backlog of posts for the entire week on the weekend, which is frustrating because I just want to get them done and posted, but I can’t dedicate enough attention or detail to them like I would otherwise prefer.

So that in itself is a struggle, let alone having to try and add reading a book to the mix… It’s just not happening at the moment.

I really need to work on my time management. Majorly!!

Dec 31: More Stuff in 2014

What do you want to more of in 2014?

In the lead up to New Years, I’ve been seen a lot of this on my FB newsfeed. I don’t really do New Years Resolutions, because I never stick to them… and most of the time they’re generic.

Just before I started to write this post, I saw a post by those Glamorous, Attention Hungry Bitches, The Mean Queens, which made me stop and think about what MY resolutions could be… They don’t necessarily need to be massive, nor do they need to be really generic like most people’s ie., I’m gonna lose 10kgs, I’m gonna put me first, I’m gonna stop smoking / drinking / being a shitbag etc.

Fuck that.

  1. I’m gonna finish my December NaBloPoMo writing challenge!!
  2. …Then I’m gonna go straight onto a January one!!
  3. I’m going to make more of an effort to take better care of my skin: cleanse, tone, moisturise and exfoliate 2-3 times per week.
  4. Have. More. Baths.
  5. Read. I have so many books that I buy, but I don’t get time to read them. I need to change that. I think in a previous post I said something about reading one book per month. That should be pretty achievable… shouldn’t it??
  6. Cook for my husband. Hulk always cooks, and even when I do (rarely) cook, he still wants to come into the kitchen and take over… because he can’t help himself and it’s adorable and annoying all at once… but seeing as how I have a heap of cookbooks just sitting there collecting dust, it’s time to start making use of them, and impressing my husband.
  7. Think about giving up my weekend job… I enjoy my job, but I would also enjoy having a weekend as well.
  8. Be more social – I need human interaction that doesn’t involve or revolve around work.
  9. Work on my diet. Having dinner at 10pm after a 15 / 16hr day 4 nights a week isn’t good at all, but that’s our life… I don’t want to keep having late dinners and then even later nights… and I can’t just completely skip dinner either… I need to work something out.
  10. Travel more. Whether interstate or overseas, girl, I need to spread my wings and go places.

Ten things is enough, right? I mean, looking back over at it, there’s certainly a lot more that I could add to that list, but I figure these are the 10 that I REALLY need to stick to the most.

Maybe I’ll re-evaluate in June ’14??

Dec 5 – 10min Timer

Set a timer for 10 minutes and try to write your whole daily post.  Now go back and give yourself 5 more minutes to write about how you felt working under such a tight deadline.

um… what?

So, I always find these posts perhaps one of the most challenging. Write my whole daily post?? WRITE ABOUT WHAT, THOUGH?? You haven’t given me a topic to write about, and that’s the tough part.

When I’ve got a prompt to write about something specific, that’s fine. I can just focus my thoughts on that and just start tap, tap, tapping away on my keyboard, but when faced with something SO OPEN like this, it’s hard. I’m actually not sure why. I could quite easily crap on and on about, literally, anything, but I have nothing to focus on. No direction in which to go. Considering that the daily prompts are my daily posts, it should really give me an actual prompt, as well as the time challenge.

*checks the clock* 5:44min left. Ugh.

I really do wish I was at home today instead. The weather is quite bleak and cold and overcast. Great start to what is supposed to be our Summer. Instead, we’ve had more rain and cold weather, than sunshine and warmth. Stupid weather. It’s all messed up. I wish I was at home, in bed, in my onesie (it’s a Giraffe, by the way!) either watching all the cartoons waiting for me on my MacBook Pro, and / or writing on my blog, or developing ideas and prompts for another writing venture that I have in the back of my mind.

Or maybe I would just be sleeping instead. Or maybe reading – I do have a number of books I want to start reading. I really should read more.

…I’m so time poor.

The fact that I usually have to write these posts when I’m at work really says a lot. I know I shouldn’t be doing it, but I don’t have time otherwise. I really just need an hour or so each day to set aside, just to focus on writing. It’ll be great once the year is over and I’m finally on holidays, because then I can actually dedicate some proper time to the task, and not have to stress about hurrying through it, just to get it finished and out of the way.

*1min 46 seconds remain*

I want cake. I’m so hungry. It’s lunch time for me now, and the last thing I want to be having is tinned tuna. No thanks. It’s cold and miserable outside. I need something warm like a Tom Yum Soup, or some noodles, or a burrito. OOOHHH BURRITO!!

Actually, tomorrow is Burrito Friday. Crazy Cat Lady and I usually have Burrito Friday each week, although we’ve missed it the past couple of weeks because either I’ve been away, or she’s been away. But damn they are so tasty!

Hmmm… now I really want a burrito 😦

I should actually go for a walk and get something filling and hot and yummy. I really seem to have my mind set on getting a Tom Yum Soup… or maybe a Laksa? Who cares, really? I’m just hungry. I want to eat EVERYTHING. Crazy Cat Lady is suggesting a baked potato, or as we refer to them, berked perderder. Ermahgerd. Hmmm… I wonder if that’s a meme? I’m sure I saw it somewhere??

*google image search: berked perderder*
…ta-daaaaa!! One of my favourite memes ever.
*PHEW* Well, now that’s over, how do I feel about the time constraint? Well, now that I glance back over it, I’m actually surprised at how much I can achieve in 10mins when I’m writing, essentially, about nothing. Having the 10mins timer is actually a good thing, because it means there’s no time to fuck around. No time for distract… ooh, new emails… ooh… FB notifications…
It’s good because it forces you to get it done. Perhaps I should apply this kind of thing to all my future posts. Give myself a 15min timer to do all the typing and then if I want to add some pics, allow myself 5 mins to jazz it up a bit.
