Daily Prompt – Overload Alert

“Everybody gets so much information all day long that they lose their common sense.” — Gertrude Stein
Do you agree?

See, I look at this and interpret ‘information’ as actual information; knowledge; facts etc, not information as ‘oh hey, here’s a photo of my lunch, and a video of some cats’. I call that ‘filler’.

16 July – A Decade of Influence

Tell us 10 people you would declare the 10 most important people in the world so far this decade.

Barack Obama – President of the USA

Well, this guy is perhaps one of the most influential people ever. First black President and let’s face, the guy just oozes swagger. honourable mention to Michelle Obama – she’s quite a style icon as well.

Kim Jong Un – Trigger Happy Supreme Leader of North Korea

So, Lil’ Kim here has major daddy issues and major image issues. Having to fill the shoes of his father, Kim Jong Il, this guy has quite an itchy (nuclear) trigger figure. Ready to hit the button if anybody dare look at him sideways, he’s prepared to declare war on the US over a James Franco / Seth Rogen movie. Clearly this guy never saw Team America. Maybe he should watch it with his best girlfriend, Dennis Rodman.

Vladimir Putin – Homophobic President of Russia

…and perhaps one of the biggest homophobes in the world. It’s also alleged he recently aided the separatists who shot down Malaysian Air flight MH17 (which in itself is believed to be the missing flight MH370).

Beyoncé – unofficial Queen of the fucking World

…because, Beyoncé. Enough said. If this fierce bitch ever became President of the USA, she really would run the fucking world. The first black, female President. Amazing!!

Steve jobs – Ex-CEO, Apple

Perhaps the one person who single handedly brought Apple back into the spotlight and completely revolutionised the communications and device industry. He was truly an amazing individual, and his legacy will live on

Jony Ive – Senior Vice President, Design, Apple

Sir Jonathan Paul ‘Jony’ Ive is the man responsible for the iconic Apple product design. Most people take his work for granted, where as others totally lose their shit as soon as he says the words ‘beveled edges’. Both he and Jobs were the dynamic duo of the tech industry. It didn’t matter what they did, the world listened… And purchased.

Mark Zuckerberg – CEO, Facebook

So, Facebook has become one of the ultimate social media platforms (see also Twitter, Instagram) which completely revolutionised the way in which people interact with each other… And shared their selfies and photos of what they’re eating. JUST STOP FUCKING SENDING ME REQUESTS TO PLAY CANDY CRUSH!!!

Larry Page – CEO, Google

Well, let’s be honest, I had no idea who this guy was, and had to Google him to find out. But ultimately, this is the guy in charge for one of the biggest online companies EVER!! It’s become a common verb in today’s vernacular, and is the default search provider, constantly getting more powerful and intuitive. But they are so much more than their search engine, venturing into multiple online facets as well as technology such as Google Glass, netbooks, phones and ChromeCast.

Oprah

 Well… Because… Oprah.

Hilary Clinton

Oh Hil… she’s been through ups and downs and still manages to pull it together with style and grace. Despite not even being a US citizen, I secretly always wanted to see Hillary end up as President of the United States, because she’d fucking get shit done!

Rupaul

Honorable mention goes to Rupaul. Slowly creating a name for not just herself, but for the ‘drag’ community as a whole, her show Rupaul’s Drag Race has finished its sixth season and is getting bigger and bolder with each season. This bitch is fierce and I fucking love her, and her show to death. YAAASSSS HONEY….. WEEERRRRRRRRRRKKKK!!!

Daily Prompt – Going Obsolete

Of all the technologies that have gone extinct in your lifetime, which one do you miss the most?

In terms of technology, there really isn’t much from my lifetime that has become extinct, instead technology has grown and evolved.

I sometimes miss some of the computer games that I used to play on my Commodore 64 or on my Amiga. Especially this one game called New Zealand Story… it was one of my absolute favourite games to play.

Apr 25 – Selective Comments

Do you think people should have the right to prune their comment section, only keeping positive comments and deleting the critical ones?

I know that I’ve seen certain people on Facebook edit their comments when they post something, and somebody says something that they don’t like.

Yes, on one side I believe that in terms of a public forum like Facebook, everybody should have the right to express their own opinions and say what they want – naturally, providing that it’s not racist or a hate-speech etc etc. However, there are people out there who are quite opinionated – and I’ll happily raise my hand and say that I’m one of them, but even I know when I am crossing a line and being too offensive, and when I do that, I edit myself and simmer down the tone somewhat.

Apr 23 – Comment: DELETED

Have you ever deleted a comment?  Tell us about it.

I’m regularly finding myself deleting comments online.

The most common reason for me doing this is because I forget to apply my filter whenever I write a comment, and instead just write whatever I’m thinking, completely disregarding how offensive or scathing it might be. Then once I’ve actually written it, I’ll stop and re-read it a few times, and realise that it could probably be worded in a much nicer way, and then I’ll go back and generally edit the comment.

Apr 22 – Should I Get Involved?

When problems brew on the Internet, do you stay quiet or rush to defend the person at the center of the situation?

Ooh… this is a tough one, as I’m guilty of both.

Recently there was somebody on FB who made a comment which was quite disparaging and negative, and without a second thought, I was on that FB page stating the facts and pretty much putting this person back in their place, and advising them of the reality of the situation, as they probably didn’t necessarily understand the whole scenario.

I’m the sort of person that has a tendency to… um… educate people when they decide to post something stupid, untrue, or un-researched. It just shows their lack of intelligence, and it pisses me off when they take that stupidity and piss all over something that I believe in.

I’ve actually been told to reign it in a few times when it comes to voicing my opinions online, regardless of whether I specify that my opinions are simply my opinions and not necessarily the same opinions shared by my employers or my peers, I still tend to behave like a dog with a bone. Especially when it comes to dealing with ignorant or stupid people. Those people I tend to just go for the throat and completely humiliate as best as I can to get my point across, and show how stupid / ignorant they actually are.

Now I tend to just take a giant step back from all the bullshit online and let other people deal with it… although if far too many people are observing such improper behaviour online and simply don’t address the issue, THEN I’ll step in and call somebody out on what they’re doing or saying. Truth be told, I’m a little bit over FaceBook… it’s just proving to be the same shit on my newsfeed, and there’s nothing really interesting about it. I think that’s perhaps why I prefer to be writing my blog posts instead…

…no #100dayshappy here, or constant barrage of inspirational quotes and graphics.

Apr 21: Social Media Scandal

Have you ever had an Internet scandal or drama play out over social media?

No, I’m not that much of an attention whore. I remember when Hulk and I first began dating and we both changed out ‘status’ to ‘In A Relationship’ which was the mark that things were serious between us, and one day, he had accidentally changed his stats, and it said single, and within minutes of that happening, I had an influx of messages asking if I was okay. I hadn’t actually seen any of this, because I was at a conference, and walked out on a break to all these messages saying ‘I’m so sorry to hear about you guys’, or ‘I just saw your relationship status change to ‘Single’, what happened, do you need to talk?’ etc etc.

I was so confused, and checked Facebook and saw it for myself. I messaged Hulk immediately to ask him what was going on, and he didn’t even realise what had happened.

Other than that, I’ve never had anything scandalous occur on social media. My view is that anything of a personal nature really doesn’t need to be broadcast out to the world for anybody and everybody to see. If it’s something that’s happening between two people, it should remain between those two people. I would like to think that if Hulk and I ever broke up, it wouldn’t be plastered all over Facebook, instead, we’d just keep it between us only.

However, if we did breakup and he started to publicly badmouth me over social media… then it’d be on, and I’d go out of my way to destroy him!!
